We offer energy modelling services for-
Building Permit Applications: If you apply for a building permit on or after January 1, 2012, the proposed construction must conform to the enhanced energy efficiency requirements of Ontario’s Building Code (OBC-2012). The proposed buildings must conform to Supplementary Standard SB-10 which is referenced in the Building Code.
This Supplementary Standard SB-10 indicates that the energy efficiency levels of these buildings must meet one of the following energy efficiency requirements:
(a) Exceed by not less than 25% the energy efficiency levels of the Model National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB-1997)
(b) Exceed by not less than 5% the energy efficiency levels attained by conforming to the ASHRAE 90.1- 2010.
(c) Achieve the energy efficiency levels attained by conforming to the ASHRAE 90.1- 2010 and Chapter 2 of SB-10.
These options are all compliance paths that meet the requirements.
Toronto Green Standard: We provide energy modelling reports confirming compliance with Toronto Green Standard (TGS).
Energy Modelling for LEED® : Energy and Atmosphere credit EAc1-Optimise Energy Performance is the most important credit in LEED®. For instance in new construction projects, up to 19 points are available based on how much energy cost your project is able to reduce as compared to the baseline building. Energy modelling is required to prove these energy/cost savings. We do energy modeling and work with your LEED® team to achieve as many points as possible.
HPNC incentive program– You can participate in the OPA’s saveONenergy-High Performance New Construction (HPNC) incentive program if you are constructing a new building or major renovation project. This program supports up to 100% cost of energy modelling or up to a maximum of $10,000. In addition to this, there are substantial incentives for building owners and design decision makers (Architects, Engineers, and Consultants) based on a percentage of energy saving and kW demand reduction.
Existing Building– To evaluate the performance of proposed energy efficiency measures, the existing building needs to be modelled based on its current condition. To proceed, we collect the utility data for two years and then input the current building performance data into the energy modelling software which includes building envelope construction type, HVAC systems, chilled water and hot water plants, lighting, equipment loads, operating schedules and equipment efficiencies. The next step is to calibrate the model to its current operating conditions to establish a baseline energy model using monthly utility usage. On top of this, we build the energy model based on planned Energy Efficiency Measures (EEMs) and also calculate the predicted energy saving and payback period after weather normalization.
